Behind it are the craggy cliffs and pine-scented slopes of the Tramuntanas. Puerto Pollensa's popularity comes as no surprise but there is a second dimension for visitors to enjoy - for inland is the old town of Pollensa, an atmospheric labyrinth of cobbled streets and ochre sandstone houses, centred on the picturesque Plaza Mayor, and its unmissable Sunday Market. Tuesday is market day at the lovely traditional village of Campanet and the old town of Alcudia, with its Roman Theatre, is worth exploring any day, both are just 15km away.
