Gaios
Gaios is the capital of the small island of Paxos - hardly big enough to be called a town, but with a certain elegance and sophistication that no mere village can aspire to. Its British and Venetian past is reflected in the handsome neo-classic buildings of the waterfront, its Greek character evident in the colour-washed houses and the happy marriage of harbour life, cafe society, and people going about their daily business without allowing tourism to get in their way. There is never a dull moment in Gaios in summer - sit at a cafe table in its colourful quayside square and watch people to your heart's content!
