| Within an easy drive from the beaches of the Monte Argentario, or medieval Siena, it would be a challenge to find anywhere as charming in this undiscovered region of Southern Tuscany.
Arriving on an Autumn afternoon and looking out over a spread of undulating hills aflame with colour and intercepted with single oak trees and clumps of forest, we agreed that it would be hard not to fall in love with this property -just for its setting alone.
The English owners discovered Casa Angelucci 16 years ago and have lived here ever since combining their artistic skills and creative flair to create their own Tuscan idyll.
Many of the rooms are adorned with the owner’s paintings, as well as cleverly captivating a unique atmosphere of cottage garden while retaining its truly Italian nature. The house itself is a true home from home; an ambience lending itself to be best enjoyed by good friends or family.
Within the main house, guests can relax in the elegant, English drawing room leading to a terrace and further sitting area or snug up in the cosy sitting/dining room with fireplace. The master bedroom and bathroom are privately set apart from the other rooms; with a beautiful, and deliberately high bed, from which one can enjoy the beautiful views of Southern Tuscany and the coast.
Casa Angelucci caters well for outside living, a spacious covered terrace with a sophisticated dining table provides a sociable, comfortable sitting area which looks down on the garden and guest house. The well-known garden with rows of cypress trees, and hedge - like avenues of rosemary interspersed with a smattering of mature olive trees, includes magical secret paths which wind through the garden leading through avenues, passing delicious scented herb beds, taking in a hidden “temple” - continuing down to the fabulously natural pool area.
When the sun becomes unbearable in the high summer months, a long, al fresco lunch is the order of the day; the pretty vine covered pergola providing shade over the comfortable outside dining area. Views are spectacular: to Argentario, Talamone and Giglio Island on a clear day.
The guest cottage, with kitchenette, set well away from the house, provides a charming and very comfortable alternative in which to sleep/siesta/work/write for those who appreciate their very own space. A fantastic property in beautiful countryside. |
